Who this guide is for
This guide is for vacation rental hosts and property management companies choosing software to answer guest messages with AI, from a single Airbnb listing to portfolios of 2,000+ units. It covers both the AI built into PMS platforms like Guesty, Hostaway, and Hospitable and the tools that sit on top of them.
How we evaluated
We read each vendor's public product and pricing pages between August 22 and August 23, 2026, and recorded only what those pages state. Where a vendor does not publish a number, we write "not publicly disclosed" and name the page we checked. Claims a vendor makes about itself are labeled vendor-reported. This guide is published by Trellis, which appears in it; every claim about another vendor links to its source. The ordering below groups tools by the operator profile they serve best, because a single 1-to-10 ranking would hide the fact that a tool that is right at 5 units is wrong at 500.
The four categories of AI guest messaging tools
PMS-native AI is messaging AI built into the property management system you already use for calendars and bookings. Hospitable, Guesty, and Hostaway belong here. You get one bill and one inbox, but you only get the AI if you use that PMS.
Messaging add-ons connect to your existing PMS and answer guests on its behalf. HostBuddy and Besty belong here. They are cheap to try and easy to remove.
Guest experience platforms treat messaging as one part of a wider guest journey: digital check-in, verification, upsells. Enso Connect is the clearest example.
AI operations layers answer the guest and then do something about it: create the maintenance task, dispatch the cleaner, brief the field team. Conduit's Full Suite tier and Trellis belong here. Phone calls are part of this category alongside written messages.

PMS-native AI: Hospitable, Guesty, Hostaway
Hospitable
Best for: hosts with 1 to 10 units who want a PMS and AI messaging in one product, starting free.
Supported channels: syncs Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo, Agoda, Google Vacation Rentals, and direct bookings (hospitable.com, retrieved 2026-08-23). Phone or voice AI is not mentioned.
Draft-only vs autopilot: full autopilot on the top plan. Hospitable's pitch for AI Auto Reply is "no need to write or review a single message" (per vendor homepage).
PMS integrations: none needed; Hospitable is the PMS.
Multilingual: not addressed on the pages we reviewed.
Human review controls: the plans below the top tier work as assistance rather than autopilot. Host and Professional plans get AI Suggested Replies; only the Mogul plan includes AI Auto Reply (pricing page, retrieved 2026-08-23).
Published pricing: a free Essentials tier and a 14-day trial per the vendor pricing page; paid plans start from $29/month per StaySTRA's 2026 comparison. Exact per-plan prices render dynamically and were not readable on our retrieval.
Limitations: the AI answers messages; the pages we reviewed do not describe it creating maintenance tickets or dispatching anyone. Fully unreviewed auto-send suits a two-unit host better than a company answering for 40 owners.
Guesty
Best for: operators already running Guesty as their PMS.
Supported channels: the Unified Inbox consolidates Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, email, SMS, and WhatsApp (guesty.com/features/unified-inbox, retrieved 2026-08-23). No phone or voice channel is mentioned.
Draft-only vs autopilot: both. Per vendor documentation, "Guesty ReplyAI and AI Autopilot draft or auto-send on-brand replies using sentiment analysis and auto-translation."
PMS integrations: Guesty is the PMS.
Multilingual: yes, auto-translation lets the AI respond in the guest's language (per vendor documentation).
Human review controls: drafting is available, but the page does not describe an approval workflow or per-property controls.
Published pricing: quote-based. No prices appear on the feature page we retrieved.
Limitations: everything lives inside Guesty, so none of it travels with you to another PMS. In its favor, Guesty is the only PMS here whose messaging page describes converting guest messages into assignable tasks, though the page does not say who dispatches or verifies that work in the field.
Hostaway
Best for: operators already running Hostaway as their PMS who want granular control over what sends automatically.
Supported channels: Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, Google, email, SMS, and WhatsApp (hostaway.com/features/communication, retrieved 2026-08-23). No phone or voice channel is mentioned.
Draft-only vs autopilot: your choice, per message type. Per vendor documentation, you decide "which messages are sent automatically and which you want to review first."
PMS integrations: Hostaway is the PMS.
Multilingual: one-click translation of incoming messages into your native language (per vendor documentation).
Human review controls: the strongest of the three PMSs on paper. The review-first option is explicit.
Published pricing: quote-based. The communication page shows no prices.
Limitations: the communication page describes replies, translation, and review automation. It does not describe converting a guest's "the AC is broken" into a maintenance task, and it does not answer phones. Trellis is a Hostaway certified partner, and many operators run the two together for exactly that gap.
Messaging add-ons: HostBuddy and Besty
HostBuddy
Best for: cost-conscious hosts on any supported PMS who want AI answers without changing anything else.
Supported channels: guest messaging through your connected PMS. No phone or voice.
Draft-only vs autopilot: AI guest messaging with configurable sending behavior.
PMS integrations: connects to your existing PMS; HostBuddy is not a PMS itself.
Multilingual: not publicly disclosed on the pricing page we reviewed.
Human review controls: not detailed on the pricing page we reviewed.
Published pricing: the clearest in this guide. $7, $10, or $12 per property per month with a 2-week free trial (hostbuddy.ai/pricing, retrieved 2026-08-22).
Limitations: scope is guest messaging, full stop. Lower tiers cap conversation history at 30 or 60 days, which matters when a guest references something from a stay two months ago. See our direct comparison at /compare/hostbuddy.
Besty
Best for: hosts who prefer paying a share of upsell revenue instead of a subscription.
Supported channels: guest messaging through your PMS. No phone or voice found.
Draft-only vs autopilot: AI messaging add-on; the split is not publicly documented.
PMS integrations: connects to existing PMSs; not a PMS itself.
Multilingual: not publicly disclosed.
Human review controls: not publicly disclosed.
Published pricing: not published. Besty's own pricing page returned a 404 when we checked on 2026-08-22. Rentals United describes a revenue-share model.
Limitations: with no published pricing or documented review controls, you are quoting a deal, not comparing a product. Budget time for a sales call before you can evaluate it seriously.
Guest experience platform: Enso Connect
Best for: operators who see messaging as the front door to check-in flows and upsell revenue.
Supported channels: EnsoAI AutoPilot covers Airbnb, Booking.com, email, SMS, and WhatsApp (ensoconnect.com/features/enso-ai, retrieved 2026-08-23). No phone agent appears on the pages reviewed.
Draft-only vs autopilot: AutoPilot mode; Enso reports 60 to 80% of messages automated (vendor-reported).
PMS integrations: connects to major PMSs; not a PMS itself.
Multilingual: WhatsApp and international channels are core to the product; a specific translation claim was not on the pages we reviewed.
Human review controls: configurable AutoPilot; detailed approval workflow not described on pages reviewed.
Published pricing: quote-based. The pricing page calculator showed $225/month at 15 listings when we ran it on 2026-08-23.
Limitations: the guest Boarding Pass, verification, and upsells are the point; field operations are not. No phone agent and no cleaning or maintenance dispatch appear on the pages reviewed. More detail at /compare/enso-connect.
AI operations layers: Conduit and Trellis
Conduit
Best for: mid-size portfolios that want an AI voice agent without buying a full operations platform first.
Supported channels: guest messaging plus voice, and voice ships in the base tier, which is unusual at this price (conduit.ai/pricing, retrieved 2026-08-22).
Draft-only vs autopilot: AI handling metered by monthly credit allowances at each tier.
PMS integrations: connects to your existing PMS; Conduit (formerly HostAI, rebranded in 2025) is not a PMS.
Multilingual: not publicly disclosed on the pricing page.
Human review controls: not detailed on the pricing page.
Published pricing: $18, $30, $36, or $48 per unit per month.
Limitations: tasks and dispatch sit only in the $48 Full Suite tier, so the operations story costs nearly triple the entry price. Credit allowances mean a heavy message month can meter you. Comparison at /compare/hostai.
Trellis
Best for: vacation rental management companies with roughly 20 to 2,000+ units and a PMS, where a guest message routinely has to become a cleaning, maintenance, or owner task. Trellis is the wrong choice under 10 to 20 units; the tools above cost less and do enough at that size.
Supported channels: every guest channel the PMS carries, plus phone. Voice AI answers guest calls and can hand an active call to a colleague. The AI inbox covers written channels.
Draft-only vs autopilot: agents draft until approved. Autopilot is earned per channel and per property rather than switched on globally, and billing starts when autopilot reaches 70% accuracy.
PMS integrations: your PMS stays. Trellis is a Hostaway certified partner and connects 200+ integrations, 36 of them deep. See /integrations.
Multilingual: agents respond in the guest's language.
Human review controls: per-channel, per-property approval before anything sends on its own; drafts remain the default until then.
Published pricing: one plan from $749.99/month, scaling with property count (/pricing).
Limitations: the price and the setup only make sense at management-company scale. A five-unit host would be paying for operations and workforce machinery they do not need. Trellis currently serves 35+ management companies across 3,000+ listings.
How to choose
Under 10 units: take Hospitable's free tier or HostBuddy's $7 plan and stop reading. Both cost less per month than one hour of a VA.
10 to 20 units on Guesty or Hostaway: try the AI already in your PMS before paying for anything else. Add Enso Connect if upsell revenue is the goal.
20 to 100 units: the question changes from "who answers the guest" to "who fixes the AC the guest mentioned." Conduit's Full Suite and Trellis both answer it; compare $48 per unit against Trellis's flat plan at your unit count.
100+ units: message volume makes unreviewed autopilot risky and unstructured follow-up expensive. Prioritize per-property review controls, phone coverage, and task dispatch that reaches the field team.
Frequently asked questions
Does AI messaging software send replies automatically or just draft them? Both models exist, and it is the most important spec to check. Hospitable's AI Auto Reply sends with no review on its top plan. Hostaway lets you pick per message type. Guesty's ReplyAI does either. Trellis drafts until you approve autopilot for a specific channel and property. Match the model to how much a wrong answer costs you.
Can any of these tools answer guest phone calls? On the pages we reviewed, only two: Conduit includes voice in its $18 base tier, and Trellis's Voice AI answers guest calls and can hand a live call to a colleague. Hospitable, Guesty, Hostaway, HostBuddy, Besty, and Enso Connect describe written channels only.
Do I have to replace my PMS to get AI messaging? No. HostBuddy, Besty, Conduit, Enso Connect, and Trellis all connect to the PMS you already run. The trade-off runs the other way: AI from Hospitable, Guesty, or Hostaway only works if that platform is your PMS.
What does AI guest messaging cost in 2026? Published add-on pricing runs $7 to $12 per property monthly (HostBuddy) up to $48 (Conduit Full Suite). Hospitable starts free. Guesty, Hostaway, and Enso Connect quote per deal; Enso's calculator showed $225 monthly at 15 listings. Trellis publishes one plan from $749.99 monthly that scales with property count.
What happens when a guest reports a maintenance problem? This is where products diverge most. Pure messaging tools answer the guest and leave the fix to you. Guesty's AI Task Creation turns the message into an assignable task. Conduit adds tasks in its top tier. Trellis creates the task, dispatches it, and briefs the field team on mobile.
